Overview
For over a century, Bordon was a garrison town. When the army departed in 2015 it left behind an area ripe for regeneration.
A once-in-a-generation opportunity came about to transform over 100 acres of former MOD land into a vibrant destination delivering 3,500 homes, 5,500 jobs and everything you need for a thriving community.

Challenge
The goal was to enable people to live and work locally, avoiding Bordon becoming a dormitory town.
Oxford Innovation Space worked with SQW to deliver a feasibility study, which persuaded the client, Homes England, that rather than demolish the Sergeants’ Mess, it should be transformed into BASE Bordon Innovation Centre. A high-quality, sustainable business space.
Solution
Our main role on the project was to support with the feasibility study and ensure that everything was properly considered ahead of the regeneration project.

- The highest level of business support
The development has garnered business support from strategic partners such as the European Space Agency, the University of Southampton, and Satellite Applications Catapult. - A preparation ground for big acquisitions
InSpace Missions (one of the first businesses at the centre) had the environment it needed to accelerate growth, which it did so successfully that the company was acquired by BAE Systems. - Opportunities for early-stage businesses
To further cement the centre’s role in business growth and acceleration, in January 2020 we leveraged finance from the UK Space Agency for the Oxford Innovation Space Incubator 2.0 - a dynamic programme designed to support seven early-stage space technology-related businesses. - Built with the environment in mind
The centre has embarked on a journey of renewal carefully retaining and refurbishing existing architectural features to create a space where tradition and progress converge, inspiring creativity, collaboration, and growth for future generations.
